چکیده

Expanded aluminum honeycomb with a nominal cell width of 0. 156 inch was used to fabricate a 24-inch-diameter unzoned lens for operation at 5 5 GHz. The lens exhibits good focusing properties but its efficiency of only 18 percent reflects significant random phase errors. These errors are shown to result mainly from variations of the cell width. From the me sured radiation characteristics the average width of the cells is deduced to be 0. 161 inch with a standard deviation of 0. 003 inch. Since phase errors associated with variations of the cell width are proportional to the lens thickness it is deduced that the much thinner zoned lenses fabricated from this material would exhibit efficiencies approaching 50 percent. Lithographically Fabricated Magnifying Maxwell Fisheye Lenses

Recently suggested magnifying Maxwell fisheye lenses, which are made of two half-lenses of different radii, have been fabricated and characterized. The lens action is based on control of polarization-dependent effective refractive index in a lithographically formed tapered waveguide. We have studied wavelength and polarization dependent performance of the lenses, and their potential application...

Experimental Demonstration of Luneburg Waveguides

Transformation optics gives rise to numerous unusual optical devices, such as novel metamaterial lenses and invisibility cloaks. Very recently, Mattheakis et al. (Luneburg lens waveguide networks. J. Opt. 2012, 14, 114006) have suggested theoretical design of an optical waveguide, based on a network of Luneburg lenses, which may be useful in sensing and nonlinear optics applications. Here, we r...

Design of Rotman Lens Antenna at Ku-Band Based on Substrate Integrated Technology

In this research work, a multibeam antenna which is a combination of a beamformer network (BFN) and a linear array antenna, has been designed. A Rotman lens has been chosen as beamformer network and Vivaldi antennas have been selected for constructing array antenna. The Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) was used for implementing Rotman lens. After explanation the structure of Substrate integ...

Achromatic waveguide lenses.

An investigation of the chromatic properties of waveguide lenses is described. In general, the focal length of mode-index and Fresnel zone (diffractive) lenses will be a function of wavelength. As a result, these lenses will have high optical quality over only a relatively small wavelength range. A method is given to correct for this chromatic dispersion by forming a hybrid mode-index/diffracti...

A simple miniature optical spectrometer with a planar waveguide grating coupler in combination with a plano-convex lens.

A miniature optical spectrometer with a thin-film planar waveguide grating coupler in combination with a miniature plano-convex focusing lens has been investigated. With optical part of the spectrometer as small as 0.2 cubic cm, the spectral resolution varies from 0.3 nm to 4.6 nm within the wavelength range 488.0 nm - 632.8 nm.
